One Extra Large Map Lamp Shade!

One Extra Large Map Lamp Shade!

One of our customers was keen to find a large and dramatic centrepiece shade for their home. They visited our Menai Bridge shop to see what we could create for them. They decided on a historic Cassini 1903 Anglesey and Snowdon Map shade which would be perfect - as it will be both unique and a talking point at the same time!

This is the largest diameter map pendant lampshade we've been commisioned to make, but Ceri took this challenging project in her stride and created this wonderful Lampshade!

Firstly, Ceri made a 1 meter base shade out of natural lokta...then calculated the spacing required for he Cassini Map pieces to be perfectly symmetrical. This shade actually took two maps divided into four portions - each of the four parts being Anglesey North, Anglesey South, Snowdon South and Snowdon North (which included detailing of the Beaumaris/Penmon area wonderfully).

Once the spacing was correct, Ceri skilfully created edging strips with the map information printed on and from these she laces lokta twine to secure...this actually makes the map shade a wrap around the lokta shade base and when the shade is lit there is a lovely effect which comes through the laced area.

Please do take a look through the images of the shade in production and take note of the detailing of lokta twine fastening.
